Tour de France 2009: the caravan

Tour de France 2012

Four great Tour stages to watch in the Pyrénées

It's another fantastic year of Tour watching in prospect for 2012. We've put together a six-night package to include four chances to see the riders: at a finish; a start depart and as close as possible as they climb the beautiful Pyrenean mountains.

Sunday 15th July: arrive at Allant

Monday 16th July: Stage 15 (Samatan to Pau) This is a flattish stage, traversing the pretty mediaeval villages just to the north of us> It is also the last chance for the sprinters before the high mountain stages of the Pyrenees. We will be offering the option today of driving to see the finish in Pau or cycling a shorter distance to the north to see the riders en route to the finish.

Tuesday 17th July: Rest day in Pau. There are lots of options today – taking a train into Pau where you might just bump into some riders; cycling locally over the beautiful, quiet undulating foothills riding some of the Tour climbs for yourself; having a go at our own Tourmalet Challenge; or taking your own rest day by the pool….

Wednesday 18th July: Stage 16 (Pau to Bagneres-de-Luchon) Starting in Pau today, the riders go over the classic Pyrenean cols of the Aubisque, Tourmalet, Aspin and Peyresourde, making this an epic 197km stage, which then finishes in the famous spa town of Luchon. We will be watching the riders today on the Col d'Aspin, either cycling from the house or being driven close enough to walk.  This is also the stage that 10000 amateur cyclists (including Steve) will be riding on the 14th July.

Thursday 19th  July: Stage 17 (Bagneres-de-Luchon to Peyragudes) There is, in fact, just 14km between the start and the finish of today's route, but the organisers have added a loop across the Col de Mente, Col des Ares and Port de Bales before a final climb up to the ski station of Peyragudes, making this an 144km stage. Today we shall watch the riders on the final climb of the day.

Friday 20th  July: Stage 18 (Blagnac to Brive) The riders will no doubt be glad to wave farewell to the high mountains of the Pyrenees. To bid them on their way, we will be heading up to the departure village of Blagnac to watch the riders sign-on and prepare for one of the last days of this year's Tour.

Saturday 21st July: end of the package.

The cost to join us for this fantastic five days of Tour watching is 550€/person based on two or more people sharing a room (165€ single person supplement). A non-refundable deposit of 150€ is payable to secure your place with the remaining 400€ to be paid by the end of May 2012. The price includes six nights' accommodation, meals (breakfast, packed lunch and dinner) and transfers to and from the Tour stages. Transfers to and from Allant holidays at the beginning and end of the package are not included. Extra days can be added before or after the package, subject to availability.
