Family holidays in the Pyrenees |
Come to stay with us for a totally flexible family holiday. We can provide full-board accommodation or a self-catering suite. There is so much to do nearby with cycling, sight-seeing, adventure sports, and of course the beautiful countryside. The swimming pool, games room, picnic table by the river, play equipment and large garden make this the perfect house for children, while parents can enjoy the use of the gym, comfortable sitting room, babysitting-service and great home-cooked food.
"A really good family holiday", C.M., Essex
Hire bikes from us or bring your own to experience the whole range of
cycling from Tour de France routes to gentle family excursions. We can
provide guided rides, easy-to-follow maps or simply advice. A British
Cycling-qualified coach can tutor those new to cycling or provide real
challenges for the more experienced cyclist. Our workshop can fix any problems
and mini bike shop can supply most things you may need. If you are a keen
cyclist, but the rest of the family isn't, then there are plenty of other things
for them to do while you enjoy the cycling...
There are numerous fun days out within a comfortable drive of the house. Visit prehistoric caves, castles and abbeys, take a drive into the mountains or a ride in the cable cars, experience Space City or one of the many animal parks, zoos and aquariums. Towns such as Lourdes, Pau, Tarbes and Toulouse have plenty to see. There are train rides into the mountains, Spain and Andorra are close enough for a day trip, as are Carcassonne, the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.
Canoeing and kayaking; climbing and canyoning; abseiling; horse-riding; fishing; adventure parks in the trees; a mountain luge (summer or winter); golf courses and driving ranges; local rugby matches to watch; plus skiing, tobogganing, husky-sled driving or snow-boarding in the winter; swimming or tennis in the summer: the Pyrenees can provide whatever sporting experience you want.

Our own field can provide a lovely walk and picnic
spot. You can always borrow the dogs; Spirit, the Shetland pony; or Hamish, the donkey, for a stroll! Keep an eye out for the
local wildlife: eagles, buzzards, hawks and kites fill the sky by day and at night
you can see bats and
owls. Lizards, hares, red squirrels, wild boar and deer can be seen close by and bears,
marmots and alpacas live up in the mountains. We can recommend
walks, cycle-routes or drives to get the best views.
Every evening we cook set-menu
meals (plus a children's menu) using as much local, fresh produce as
possible, organic and free-range meat whenever we can, and our own eggs and
vegetables. We serve a generous continental breakfast of croissants, bread, cereals,
yoghurts and fruit, while a full English, German or a "high-energy"
breakfast is available on request. Plus, don't forget to sample our chicken's
fresh eggs - poached are best! If you
are out for the day, we can provide packed lunches or advice on where to
stop. Another option is to take our self-catering accommodation and then your room has a private
kitchenette. Our village has a
bar/café, while the nearby town of Lannemezan has a whole range of restaurants: French, Italian or Spanish tastes; from brilliant value meals
to something a bit special. In the surrounding villages there are plenty
of other options, such as a
child-friendly pizzeria at Betpouy or a ferme-auberge near
Castlenau-Magnoac, which serves the food it has reared/grown on the farm.
Our
five en-suite bedrooms can be arranged either as
doubles, twins, triples or a family room for four as necessary. Our
Tourmalet & Col d'Aspin bedrooms can be offered as a family suite (for up to
six). This also includes a kitchenette, allowing you to be self-catered if you so wish. A cot and high-chair are always available
for babies. Our Pla d'Adet bedroom includes a spa
bath and dressing room plus your own balcony to sit out and survey the
grounds. All rooms include tea- and coffee-making facilities. The games
room has a pool table, Wii,
Playstation 2, dart boards, various board games
and puzzles, plus
a large library of books, videos and dvds for you to
use.
